How to heal pain naturally: is it unethical to pretend to heal when you aren't a healer? I don't know. If your healing works, what is unethical about it? Don't treat only the pain because pain is a warning. You wouldn't disable the fire alarm because the noise startled you, would you?

Placebo Effect

Have you seen a mother "kiss it better" to switch off the tears like turning off a tap? She used the placebo effect. Because the child believed that the mother knew how to heal it got better immediately. Is that unethical?

All good doctors (yes there are even some good allopaths) use the placebo effect, because it cures more patients than any other treatment. The placebo effect can cure forty percent of cases with some sort of healing energy, and no other remedies are much more effective.

Heal Thyself

That is very old advice now, but it is still just as good. All the good doctors a century ago used to try out their treatments on themselves. Probably some of them died as a result, but I don't know of any.

The standard way to try out a new poison for homeopathic use was for the physician to take the poison with the antidote handy. He would then describe his symptoms while students wrote them down and added their own observations. The antidote would be taken at the last possible minute. Heal thyself was a way of life for those intrepid pioneers learning how to heal.

Healing Energy

So where does that leave us with some of the more eccentric ideas about how to heal? What about psychic healing hands? What about Reiki? What about aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage, passing small electrical currents through the blood, the study of the retina, analysis of hair clippings, psychiatry and all the other mumbo-jumbo out there?

It's quite possible that not one of them is a valid remedy, or all might be valid, or somewhere in between, but if they work, why not use them? If they work with animals then you know that it isn't because the animal believes it will get better, don't you? Holistic healing views how to heal pain naturally as a broad approach.
