Deadly soybeans lie kills people around the world. Lie: Soybeans are the perfect protein and are completely safe because the Oriental people have been using them for time immemorial.
Truth: Fermented soybeans have been eaten by Oriental people. Unfermented soybeans are too dangerous to use.
Soybeans, like many other beans, protect their seeds from pests by loading them with poison. Unlike pests we can often treat poisons so that they are harmless. By prolonged pressure-cooking of soybeans the main toxins, Phytic Acid and trypsin inhibitor, can be destroyed. After that you can ferment the soybeans. If you decide to grow soybean sprouts, soak them, throw away the toxic soak water, and do this three times before sprouting them. That will get rid of most of the phytic acid and the sprouting should get rid of the rest.
Basically soybeans are indigestible, but fermentation alters their composition to something that we can digest. In fact a heart healthy diet should include Natto, which can clear out our arteries and veins leaving them free of deposits. Of course, the natto microorganisms deserve the credit, not the soybeans.
According to Mary Enig and Sally Fallon, the phytic acid in soybeans can block the digestion of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. This can be helpful for men who normally suffer from excess iron in their blood. Personally I prefer to give blood regularly to get rid of any excessive iron from my blood.
Trypsin Inhibitor
Soybeans also contain a chemical that inhibits trypsin, which is responsible for digesting the protein in soybeans. That means that although soybeans contain a lot of protein, we can't absorb it. Fermented soybeans make the protein available.
Tempeh burgers became quite popular in certain quarters, and tempeh is the best way to get your supply of protein from soybeans. After pressure-cooking to kill the inhibitor and the phytic acid the soybeans only need to be fermented for one day, which is the shortest fermentation process for soybeans. Miso for instance can take years for the highest quality fermentation.
Imitation Sex Hormones
I believe that the plant version of estrogen in soybeans is more important than the toxic effects mentioned above. Girl children in areas using soybeans are maturing earlier (some are sexually mature at 6 years old) and males are remaining effeminate with delayed sexual maturity.
According to the Lancet, July 5, 1997 350(9070) 23-27 In tests done on people who eat soybeans it was found that their blood had the plant imitation hormones in concentrations between 13 thousand times and 20 thousand times the concentration of estrogen.
The recommendation was that unfermented soybeans are not really suitable to be eaten, and you should warn any of your friends who use soy products to use only fermented soy products. Apart from the three traditional fermentation products (tempeh, miso, natto) you can also make Kefir from soy milk.
Genetic Modified Soy
Over two-thirds of the U.S. soy crop is genetically modified. If you still have a naïve and idealistic faith in the food and drug companies you probably believe that the gene-modified soybeans will be more healthy.
According to Monsanto's own tests (the people who patented the modification) soybeans that like Roundup have 29% less of the brain nutrient called "choline" and 27% more of the trypsin inhibitor than normal soybeans. That means that the gene-modified beans have less of the good stuff and more of the bad stuff. And that says nothing about the chemical residues left over from the high concentrations of weed killer that the gene modification is designed to allow.
Of course you could buy your soybeans from organic farmers, but the gene modified beans are designed to spread like weeds and then Monsanto can sue any farmers who have the undesired weeds on their property for breaking the copyright. Don't laugh - a farmer was found guilty in a USA court when his crops were infected by unwanted gene modified intruders.
Alzheimers
In one study of 4000 old Japanese-American men it was found that those who ate more tofu (an unfermented soybean product) were more than twice as likely to develop Alzheimers disease. Perhaps you are young. Perhaps you haven't even met someone whose mind has been destroyed by Alzheimers disease. Personally I prefer to keep my mind as healthy as I can. I don't fancy becoming a living vegetable.
Vitamin A deficiency
No plant food contains vitamin A. Instead it contains carotene which the body can convert to vitamin A with some use of energy.
It has not been proved that soybeans eaten by the mother will cause birth defects in the baby, so go ahead and eat soybeans if you like a good gamble. Just remember that you will have to look after a defective child for all of its life if you lose the gamble.
To get vitamin A you must eat animal-based foods. That's fine for adults, but not so good if you replace mothers milk with infant formula. Many babies have died with vitamin A deficiency induced by infant formula having none.
Infant formula
Vitamin A deficiency is not the only problem in infant formula. I would like to see the manufacturers charged with selling toxic materials for vulnerable babies to drink. But it will never happen.
Soybean plants lift up manganese from the soil and concentrate it till it is up to 200 times as concentrated as the level in mother's milk according to Dr. Francis Crinella, clinical professor of pediatrics at UC-Irvine, and Trinh Tran, a graduate researcher at the UC-Davis Department of Animal Studies.
After the deaths in two London hospitals of babies receiving the same amount of manganese as is found in soy infant formula it was discovered that of 57 babies receiving the so-called safe level of manganese, two had digestive problems, and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated that six had damage to the basal ganglia in their brains.
Brain damage at this young age is particularly significant because the brain is growing so rapidly in infants.
Hyperactivity in Adolescents
Adolescents who were hyperactive were found by Crinella to have higher levels of manganese in their scalp hair. He was puzzled because California has very low levels of manganese in the soil. The only explanation seemed to be infant formula, but could that really affect adolescents so many years later?
Crinella did some experiments with rats with very clear results. Rats getting manganese in the same concentration as breast milk were the same as the control group receiving no manganese. The dopamine production in rats receiving the highest level of manganese plunged by 63%.
He concluded that as the brain develops very rapidly in a baby it is particularly sensitive to poisons such as manganese. These are deposited in the brain and can reactivate during puberty and appear as attention deficit disorder. A better name might be "manganese toxicity syndrome".
Thyroid damage
An under-active thyroid can make you become obese.
The New Zealand ministry of health stated "The Ministry of Health has found that infants with a history of thyroid dysfunction should avoid soy formulas and soy milks. Additionally, there is potential for isoflavone exposure to cause chronic thyroid damage in all infants fed soy formulas"
That is all very well, but how much of the epidemic of obesity is caused by thyroid deficiency resulting from adults eating soybeans? The food and drug industries are not saying.
How can you avoid eating soybeans?

If you take a magnifying glass with you to read the ingredients in food packages you'll find that very few food products don't have at least one of the following.
- Soy flour
- Soy oil
- Lecithin (extracted from soy and used as an emulsifier)
- Soy protein isolates
- Soy protein concentrates
- Textured vegetable protein (TVP)
- Hydrolyzed vegetable protein
- Unidentified vegetable oils (mostly soy in the USA)
