The milk pasteurizing and homogenizing lie is very profitable to processors who perform these services, and helps to keep down competition from small farmers.
Lie: It is dangerous to use un-pasteurised milk. Pasteurised milk is clear of dangerous micro-organisms, and more healthy for you.
Lie: Milk homogenisation is good for you.
When I was a child I noticed a frog floating on top of our milk supply. That made it obvious that the milkman had added water from a ditch to the milk. Pasteurisation was initiated to deal with dirty milk like that. They also hoped that it would help fight tuberculosis, but it didn't work.
Modern reason for milk processing
The use by date is extended by pasteurising and homogenisation so that it can spend more time being transported to the supermarket and on the shelves.
Beneficial bacteria destroyed
The trouble is that there are bacteria in milk that help you to fight tuberculosis. These helpful bacteria are killed by pasteurisation. In one five-year test before raw milk was made illegal there was only one person who got TB from drinking raw milk, but there were 14 who got it from drinking pasteurised milk. That demonstrates that
- Pasteurisation doesn't get rid of every TB organism
- Pasteurisation kills the friendly bacteria that protect you from deadly bacteria.
Healthy souring of milk is also prevented. Sour milk is more easily digested, because the friendly bacteria have converted the milk to a more digestible form.
Thermophyls Encouraged
Far from killing all bacteria, pasteurisation actually encourages the growth of bacteria that like the heat, called thermophyllic bacteria. These are a major cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Milk destroyed by pasteurisation
After pasteurisation milk no longer has minerals such as Iodine, Calcium and Phosphorus readily available. That results in bone damage. Vitamins too are destroyed, especially A, B and C.
Skim milk is fattening
Research workers were amazed recently when they discovered that skim milk caused people to put on weight and full cream milk didn't. They had expected the results to be reversed, but each time we meddle with the milk we make it worse.
Milk no longer dirty
Pasteurisation was invented for dirty milk. For two weeks I worked on a dairy farm to replace the dairyman who was on holiday. Twice a day after milking I had to completely dismantle the milking equipment, separating all the rubber and stainless steel parts and straightening out the rubber parts to avoid creases where bacteria could hide. Then I had to wash all the parts in hot water and quaternary ammonium disinfectant, then rinse them all very thoroughly before placing them in the autoclave to "pressure cook" the bacteria that might have been able to survive the disinfectant and then ordinary boiling temperatures.
In spite of all these precautions the inspector found some bacteria one day and the farmer would have lost his milk producers licence if it had happened again the next day, so he worked beside me and we checked each other to avoid any slip-ups.
People drank milk without these ultra-clean procedures for a long time before Pasteur was born. But we are no longer processing dirty milk, so the only reason why pasteurisation continues is to extend the use-by date.
Dirt still in milk
Proponents of pasteurisation point out that you can still get dirt in the milk from carelessly washed udders or from undetected mastitis. Attempting to keep people in sterile conditions doesn't work. It prevents them from developing natural immunity. That is why people getting pasteurised milk got TB fourteen times as often as those receiving un-pasteurised milk.
Homogenised milk scam
Homogenised milk is whiter so looks better in coffee. However the main reason for it is the extended use-by date.
The problem is that milk particles are broken so small that they can be absorbed directly into the blood stream without being digested. This causes several problems including atherosclerosis (heart attacks) because the body doesn't know how to handle these particles.
Processed milk is bad for your teeth because of the calcium being in an indigestible form. Also it lacks Magnesium. The soft inside of your teeth is made with Calcium. The hard outer coating uses Magnesium, so magnesium deficiency causes soft teeth. Raw milk protects your teeth.
Processed milk is toxic
As if the damage done to milk by processing wasn't bad enough, cows concentrate all the agricultural chemicals and hormones into their milk. So unless you can get milk products made from raw organic milk you should never drink milk or use milk products. Many countries support the milk pasteurizing and homogenizing lie
