Montelukast sodium, sometimes known as Singulair or Singular, sets out to fight your body on a long-term basis, and the makers want you to take it whether you have asthma or not.
If you cut yourself your body immediately makes your blood at the wound clot into a scab. Some children may fight their bodies by picking off the scab but it manages to reform when they are asleep or forget about it. What would you think about a doctor who gave you drugs to stop your blood clotting, so that you would bleed to death?
Your attacks are the result of breathing so much that you flush away all the carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide dilates your airways more safely than medicines. If you breathe out too fast it can no longer do its job. So your airways start to close down - usually when you are breathing about two and a half times as much air as you should.
It's not quite as simple as that, because carbon dioxide is also needed to help your body to use oxygen. So your body produces mucus to try to close down the airways if inflammation and muscular action are not enough.
Other medications also fight your body's attempts to keep you healthy.
Buteyko, a Russian, showed that over-breathing caused the problem half a century ago, but it was another 30 years before the experts would admit that he was right. They wouldn't apologize but back-dated their acknowledgement twenty years, even though they had kept him waiting for 30 years. However, he probably didn't mind too much because his discovery cured him of a supposedly incurable heart complaint that was expected to kill him in a year.
Montelukast sodium medicine is intended to force your airways back open again, in spite of the best efforts of your body to close them down.
Here is an official list of side effects of this treatment. I have shown in red the problems that this dangerous drug are meant to be treating - not causing. At least the manufacturers never claim that this therapy can cure.
- If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Singulair and seek emergency medical attention or notify your doctor immediately:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- numbness, tingling, or pain;
- a rash or unexplained open sores or bruising;
- a flu-like illness;
- severe inflammation (pain and swelling) of the sinuses; or
- worsening respiratory symptoms.
- Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Singulair treatments and talk to your doctor if you experience
- upset stomach, stomach pain, or heartburn;
- dizziness or headache;
- tiredness;
- sore throat or cough, or
- nasal irritation.
- Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. These may include abdominal pain, abnormal dreams, allergic reaction, bronchitis, bruising, dental pain, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, drowsiness, ear infection, ear pain, eczema, eye inflammation, fever, flu, hallucinations, hives, infection, insomnia, irritability, itching, laryngitis, leg pain, muscle aches and cramps, nasal congestion, nausea, pancreatitis, pneumonia, rash, restlessness, runny nose, seizures, sinus pain, skin inflammation, sneezing, sore throat, swelling due to fluid retention, swelling of the mouth or throat, upper respiratory infection, tendency to bleed easily, thirst, viral infection, vomiting
You may wonder how just one prescription drug could cause so many side effects. The explanation is quite simple. It is interfering with your body's attempts to get more oxygen. Oxygen is needed by almost every part of your body, with the exception of your nails and your hair. So when Montelukast sodium stops you getting enough oxygen your body has to decide which parts should get less than they need.
Simple Test
After hearing each drug salesman telling you that his drug is the singular cure for asthma you may find difficulty in believing all this. Try this simple test.
Put a large paper bag with your emergency asthma medicine. Next time you have an attack, cover your nose and mouth with the opening of the bag. Breathe into the bag and from the bag. This will rapidly increase the carbon dioxide content of your breath. If you suddenly find that you can breathe freely again you can start to believe that what you read here is true.
You can discover why you risk your life when you use prescription asthma medication and healthier alternatives, including the Buteyko cure.
