A healthy weight is the elusive target of many people, but I am healthy and my weight is right in the middle of the range for the best weight for my height. And it's easy - as long as you aren't easily led astray by so-called friends.

Healthy Snacks

I suppose you are bracing yourself to hear that there is no such thing. On the contrary...your body starts depositing fat as soon as it thinks that famine may be approaching - in other words, as soon as you feel hungry. So eat healthy snacks as soon as you feel hungry. Forget about refined sugars and starch in your snacks and that includes chocolate . They will definitely stop your progress towards a healthy weight.

That doesn't mean that you have to munch on celery stalks (I like celery stalks). In the mornings you can load up on raisins, prunes, sultanas, figs, dates, oranges, carrots. These are all high-carb but low glycemic index snacks.

Here is a good late-afternoon snack for healthy weight loss. You may have heard that chocolate is good for you. That is a lie. What they mean is that the cocoa and the cocoa oil are good for you, with which they flavor the sugar. Refined sugar causes diabetes and obesity. Let me introduce you to a Paraguayan herb called Stevia. It is much sweeter than refined sugar, without the undesirable side effects. Buy it as dried stevia powder. I don't trust Steviocide, which is a sweetener extracted from stevia, and about a thousand times as sweet as sugar. Nobody has proved that the refined product is bad for you, but I don't trust refined foods.

Get a packet of cocoa powder at your supermarket. If it is warm enough for cocoa-nut oil to be liquid pour a desert-spoonful of it into a quarter of a teaspoon of stevia powder and a tablespoon of cocoa powder and mix well before pouring on boiling water. If it is colder, you should have your coco-nut oil frozen into conveniently sized lumps. Pop one into a cup, pour on the boiling water, wait till the oil has melted, stir in the stevia and cocoa powder.

Why is this a healthy snack to actually help you get a healthy weight? The oil is satisfying, and the cocoa makes you feel good. That means that you won't feel hungry again for an hour or two. I have that an hour or so before my evening meal.

Healthy weight loss

I'll go into more detail elsewhere about actually losing weight, which I consider to be less important than being healthy. However one follows on another. If you want a healthy heart, you can't be obese as well.
